Air Fryer Baked Sweet Potatoes

Looking for an easy and delicious air fryer side dish? Try making baked sweet potatoes in the air fryer. They take very little prep work and leave your oven free if you need the space, or can be made if you don’t have an oven.

 Air Fryer Baked Sweet Potatoes

Making baked sweet potatoes in the air fryer is especially handy if you’re only making one or two because you don’t have to heat up your oven. They are also convenient if you’re in a place where you don’t have access to a conventional oven or if the oven is already full. The skin also gets crispier in the air fryer than in the oven. Sweet potatoes are versatile. You can have them as a side for a weeknight dinner or dress them up for a holiday meal. They are also delicious in sweet or more savory applications.

 Figure It Out

How long do I cook the sweet potato

Thirty-five minutes is a good starting time, but air fryers and sweet potatoes vary. Check the potato at the 35-minute mark and see if the potato is tender in the center when poked with a fork. If it isn’t done, continue to cook and check every five minutes until the potato is tender in the center.

 Storage and Reheating

You can make extra baked sweet potatoes and refrigerate them as soon as they are cool to the touch, about 30 minutes. Store them in a covered container for 2–3 days.
How to reheat in the oven: Place the sweet potato on a baking sheet in a preheated 400°F oven for 15–20 minutes to help keep the skin crisp.

How to reheat in the microwave: Split the sweet potato in half and place it in a microwave-safe dish with a lid. Microwave for 2 minutes on high power, or until heated through.

How to reheat in an air fryer: Cook at 350°F for 4–5 minutes, or until heated through.

Hints for Making Baked Sweet Potatoes in the Air Fryer
  • Flip larger potatoes halfway through cooking. This can help them cook more evenly.
  •  Poke holes throughout the potato before cooking. This gives steam a place to escape and can help prevent the potato from splitting. It also helps give you a nice, fluffy interior.
  • Lightly coat the outside with oil. A thin coating of oil helps the skin get nice and crispy.

What to Serve With Air Fryer Baked Sweet Potatoes

These pair well with burgers, barbecue, or roasted or rotisserie chicken for an easy weeknight dinner. You can use butter, cinnamon, and a little sugar to enhance the sweetness. Brown sugar is especially tasty with sweet potatoes. For a more savory preparation, try butter, salt, and pepper.
